Building “confident and competent individuals who have a firm belief in Islam, a strong sense of self and national identity” is one of the visions of National Curriculum Framework (NCF). And, “Practicing Islam” is one among the eight key competencies of the NCF which are essential for individuals to live, learn and contribute as active members of the nation and the world. Namoona program aims to develop teachers to achieve the vision of NCF with a focus on “Practicing Islam”, the first key competency of NCF.
Namoona program was launched in April 2017 in Fuvahmulah City. In 2017, we have trained more than 600 teachers since the launch of this program. Alhamdhulillah, the progress and acceptance of the program was phenomenal. The participants gave an overall score of 96% for the program. Nevertheless, we experience many challenges, which also gave us, lots of insight to further develop and enrich the program. With the positive feedback from participants, we are ever more excited to make 2020 better, insha Allah. In 2020, we plan to target more atolls across the country instead of minimizing it to a hand full, and shorten the workshop from 12 hours to 8 hours.
